Ok, so I've been looking for the name of this movie for a while. I've seen it but can't remember the name

Its plot revolves around a family living in isolation in the desert of the american southwest (Arizona? New Mexico?). There's a younger girl who's the narrator. The family's mother, I remember was naked in the garden a few times, watching a deer. I think the family may have been undergoing financial difficulties

A young man comes by from the government/IRS and ends up staying and becoming a painter. The girl has never seen the ocean and he paints the horizon and the ocean in one, long painting. He dies at the end looking for plants to grind into paint and is later a very famous name in art.

I remember there being a boat which they for some reason, even though they were in the desert and never took it in any body of water.

The film I believe has been relatively recent something makes me think 2000-2004. I believe that's it's also set in recent times although I'm not as sure about that. Definitely set within the past few decades.
The movie had a very independent feel to it, that is, that of an indie movie.

thanks for any clues or help!

Guillermoas Furniture Store Scenario

While many people know that Sonora, Mexico is a beautiful vacation spot, it is also a large furniture manufacturing location in North America. Guillermo Navallez made furniture for years near his Sonoran home. The area had a good supply of timber for the variety of tables and chairs produced by his company. Labor was also relatively inexpensive. In addition, he priced his handcrafted products at a slight premium for the quality they represented. Overall, life was good for Guillermo.

All of that was true until late in the 1990s when two forces combined to cause a large dent in his business. First, a new competitor from overseas entered the furniture market. Using a high-tech approach, this foreign competition provided furniture to exact specifications and did so with rock-bottom prices. Second, the sleepy communities in Sonora woke up. One of the largest retailers in the nationas headquarters was just a few miles down the road, and its influence had expanded considerably. With inexpensive housing, mild weather, beautiful scenery, un-congested roads, a new International Airport, and plenty of development, an influx of people and jobs raised the cost of labor substantially. Guillermo watched his profit margins shrink as prices fell and costs rose.

After doing some research on his competition to see how they are handling these changes, it is clear that many of them are consolidating into larger organizations by merger or acquisition. Being independent, Guillermo does not relish the idea of being acquired by a larger competitor and then retired as the new company squeezes every peso it could out of the overhead costs. Guillermo also is not looking to expand his management responsibilities by acquiring another organization either; that could affect his time with his family in ways that he will not enjoy.

Guillermo then spent some time looking at the foreign competition and their high-tech solution. Essentially, their production utilizes a computer controlled laser lathe to produce exact cuts in the wood. Highly automated, the plant in Norway uses very little labor as robots even perform the precise movement and assembly functions. The cost of the technology is immense, as is the reduction in the labor needed for production. In addition, the production can move between products quickly, and it runs on a 24-hour basis, as the shift-differentials are more than offset by the reduction in labor. Converting his production to this model would be expensive, but he saw how he could also decrease dramatically his production costs.

When talking to some of his distributors about their wants, he had another idea that appealed to him. A second competitor, currently operating only in Norway, has been looking for channels to distribute in North America. This second potential rival, however, did not operate furniture outlets favoring instead to rely on chain distributors. Perhaps Guillermo could coordinate his existing distributor network and essentially become a representative for this other manufacturer. While he may retain some of the high end custom work, he could move his company from primarily manufacturing to primarily distribution.

Guillermo also has a patented process for creating a coating for his furniture. In producing this product, the process first creates a common flame-retardant, and upon further processing, the coating is complete and stain resistant. There is market for the flame retardant, but not as much of a market for the finished coating. There is another product that Guillermo could buy to apply to his furniture as well that would add the same amount of value for the furniture.

WWE has only Rey Mysterio, and Sicodelico Jr. (FCW). Other Hispanic wrestler like Carlito, Primo, Melina, Chavo Guerrero, and Ricky Ortiz doesn't count because they never fought in a Mexican promotion. Puerto Rican doesn't count either (not trying to offend anyone).

Some list of Luchador

Mistico- He might leave CMLL due to problem and stuffs. He also explain he might go the Japan or the WWE.

Mr. Aguila- Was brought to the WWE at age 19. Never got a push which he really deserve to. Also he is now competing in the independent in Mexico. So it should be easy to contract him.

Konnan- Mexico's Hulk Hogan as some people refer him as. He's entertaining and could team with Rey Mysterio or R-Truth.

Dr. Wagner Jr.- Almost came to the WWE. Has the ability to become a WWE superstar. Has accomplish major title in most of the promotion he goes to.

Hector Garza- Great wrestler and have a bright future in wrestling businesses. Good wrestling technique.

Heavy Metal- Need to express himself more to the U.S. Also an outstanding performer.

L.A. Park (the original La Parka)- Very entertaining. Came to WCW, ECW and TNA, and now he just need to come to the WWE. Also in the independent and should be easy to contract.

List of failure attempt to contract Luchadors by the WWE.
Dos Caras Jr., El Hijo de Perro Aguayo, Mistico, Mr. Aguila, Damien 666, and Rocky Romero.

Notes: Dark Ozz almost came to the WWE when AAA wanted him to go, but WWE didn't contract him yet. SHARE YOUR OPINION.

Economy-Taxes should be based on a percentage of what you make, that way it is fair. State sales taxes should not be over 5%. Corporations should not be controlled by the government, but if they pose some kind of danger to the country they should be regulated.

Environment-The government should support Electric cars by offering tax credits to companies that sell them. Also people who buy them should be recieve a tax credit. Solar power should replace the use of oil. Domestic production should continue middle eastern oil should not be used by the U.S. Wind power should be used in off shore wind farms.

Immigration-English should become the national lanuage. Documents including drivers test should all be in english. Illegal immigrants should be prosecuted, they broke the law, and they should be deported. The U.S. should support legal immigration, but due to over population the number of new citizens should be resticted. Companies that employ illegals should be fined and or put out of bussiness. A wall should be constructed along the U.S. mexican border. The U.S. should support workers visa cards for people who want to work here. The U.S. should guide Mexico to help them improve their country, but should not do so with tax payer's money.

Abortion-should be allowed, look at it this way. Do you want to pay with your taxes for someone's kid to go through hell living in child care without parents? and what if a girl was raped? This is not an easy answer, and I don't support the idea of it, but in reality I think it should be allowed, I support abortion. I also support stem cell research.

Gay Marriage-I do not support, but if the majority of a state's population wants to allow it, then it should be allowed.

Death Penalty-I support, but the evidence has to be there. Your taxes should not go to keeping murdurers and rapists alive.

Crime-More Police and harsher laws. I do not believe in legalizing drugs. Medicinal use should be allowed though. Kids should be educated better in school through programs like d.a.r.e. More colleges should be built in high crime areas like L.A. Oakland, Detriot, to offer people a chance to escape from poverty.

Welfare-I do not believe a large portion of taxes should go to welfare, people need to help themselves. I do believe in food stamps and out of work aid, but not welfare cadallics.

Education-needs national standards and all schools need to have the same criteria in order to graduate high schools and colleges. If a student obtains a GPA above 3.5 their cost to attend any college of their choice (accepted to) should be waved. College should not be out of reach, anyone should be able to attend schools like harvard if they worked hard, despite what their parents make.

Military-Afganistan should be kept under control due to the terror treat. Osama Bin Laden should be captured and prosecuted for his crimes. Diplomacy should always be used before military engagement. The United Nations should should step in on certain issues like the genocide in Darfur. Dipolmacy should be used towards North Korea, but if they go against international law they should be sanctioned.
Gantonomo should not be shut down. They should recieve trials in court though.

Social Security-should not be spent by the government it isn't their money to spend.

Health Care-should be similar to Canada

The Second Amendment-automatic weapons should be illegal, background checks should be required, Certain guns should not be owned. Should be regulated, but responsible people should be allowed to own a gun.

Afirmative Action-should be abolished, there should be a colorblindness towards everyone. People should be defined by their accomplishments not by their race.

I HAVE JUST PRESENTED SOME ISSUSE AND MY STANCE ON THEM. IF I RAN AS AN INDEPENDENT WOULD YOU VOTE FOR ME. YES OR NO AND WHY. THANK YOU

Cinco de Mayo has become a day of pride for Mexican-Americans and Latinos, just as Saint Patrickas Day is for Irish-Americans. And as our Mexican-American population grows, this holiday has spread from the Southwest that once was Mexico to Buffalo, Boston, and Baltimore.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Battle of Puebla (pictured above) on May 5, 1862, when Mexican forces defeated a slightly larger French force.

This victory was temporary. In the second Battle of Puebla in 1863, French troops crushed the Mexican army, occupied Mexico City days later, and continued to rule Mexico for four years.
The French Emperor Napoleon III had dared to send troops to occupy Mexico only because the United States was preoccupied with its own War Between the States, aka our Civil War.

When our war ended, we massed an American army near the Texas border with Mexico and informed the French emperor that our Monroe Doctrine would not tolerate European control of Mexico.

Napoleon III beat a hasty retreat, leaving his installed a?liberala? Hapsburg puppet a?Emperor of Mexicoa? Maximilian I to be overthrown and executed at the hands of locals in 1867.

Few in the media will mention that Mexico is an independent nation today only because the United States liberated it from French colonial rule. Without this Yankee intervention, Mexico might be a French-speaking country today.
a?Welcome to Cinco de Cuatro a Cinco de Mayo at the White House,a? President Barack Obama said Monday in his latest of dozens of little-reported gaffes.

In saying a?fifth of four,a? had the president meant to say Cuatro de Mayo, Monday's date, the fourth of May?

No matter a Obama's sycophantic press corps swiftly buried yet another presidential fumble that would have been played and mocked for months if former Vice President Dan Quayle or any other Republican had voiced it.

a?My [Spanish] accent's always been good,a? the president said modestly. a?It's just that I only know 15 words.a?

Too bad. The previous president, former Texas Republican Gov. George W. Bush spoke Spanish almost as well as he did English.

I need a lawyer, who can represent me?

I am planning on creating my own militia within the state of California to fight these cartels along the border. I don't need comments that I will go to jail where all the Cartels already are guys....lol. Thanks for the concern, but we have a country that is relying on people like me, and our country doesn't even know it yet. I can justify this by everyone looking back to the colonial days and also George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson.

I need a lawyer to keep me out of trouble and to keep my militia informed at all times with the government. I have no means to hide anything, because I plan to do it for the states and our constitution to protect our lands.

Do I have rights as a citizen to use Article Four of the United States Constitution by the way to my fullest advantage if the Government fails to protect our American soil?

I am not about to let someone walk all over what we worked so hard for in this nation. This is MY nationas soil and it is yours as well and as citizens, it is our duty to apply our perceptions to the American territory if our government has gone corrupt.

For everyone who has signed the Constitution, step into their shoes and see how they would feel about me regarding this issue. If you feel that they would support it, then that's ALL THAT NEEDS TO BE SAID!

I asked for a lawyer. Not personal advice.

"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect against tyranny in government."
THOMAS JEFFERSON

"The President, and government, will only control the militia when a part of them is in the actual service of the federal government, else, they are independent and not under the command of the president or the government. The states would control the militia, only when called out into the service of the state, and then the governor would be commander in chief where enumerated in the respective state constitution."
Federalist Papers under No. 69
Alexander Hamilton

"The people are masters of both Congress and
courts, not to overthrow the Constitution,
but to overthrow the men who pervert it!"
Abraham Lincoln

I am in specific need to move forward with my actions that I am speaking of, but I WILL NOT break our own Constitution to do so. So I am going to move carefully and specifically according to the original documents of the Constitution and what our founding forefathers put together. Those are Constitutional rights that we cannot break and I am a strong supporter of Prince Makaveli words about not changing tax laws or laws in general. I will disregard any of the new amendments that have been put forth since the 1800's except our slavery laws, and I know for a fact, in our time of crisis and our Homeland Security, there is an extremely strong area that I can move forward in to abolish any amendments that stand in my way of doing so and by going back to the basics of our Constitution.

The American people need it, and it is our 100% duty to take this role before our country suffers from tyranny in this country. We are way too powerful, and for that, we need to find these powerful people who can help to support us through this movement. We will stay legal. Not for our own sake of avoiding jail time, but for our sake of following our countries rights and bringing US ALL back to the basics of the United States Constitution, Bill of Rights, and our Declaration of Independence.

Are you a part of the Militia of Montana or were you just forwarding this to me? I am attaching my proposal to you about our needs to start states armies once again in America and a descriptive picture of the Mexican cartels and which ones are coming from where in Mexico and where the drug trafficking is coming from. Please read my proposal carefully. It is extremely important if you were to ever speak about it to others that you say it carefully with respect to our central power and not letting the states powers to become more powerful than federal powers. We as States are only here to support and help the Federal powers. Not shoot them down.

I need a lawyer, now who can represent me?
Thank you for responding to my post. Now letas make a movement.

I've been doing sooo much History that I feel like my brain is going to expload! Can someone please help me with this. It would be a HUGE help.

Like disco lemonade, here I am. Unique, complicated, funky and sweet. I am an independent thinker who loves a good debate. I am a tree-hugger who appreciates nature. I am an intellectual who enjoys reading Hobbes and Shakespeare as well as Dr. Seuss. I am a high school senior who is ready for the next four years of her life as a college student. My family has always been very close to me and they have directly shaped my dreams and aspirations. My mother was born in Zacatecas, Mexico and my father in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Like most immigrants they came to the United States with no money in their pockets, but dreams in their hearts.
My parents met each other in high school. My dad had already graduated and was in college when my mom discovered she was pregnant with my brother. She dropped out of school and my dad dropped out of college to get a job. For the next eight years he worked for an auto-body shop doing whatever his boss asked him to for whatever his boss offered to pay. My mom on the other hand found her niche as a Registered Dental Assistant. She found a good paying job because of her talent. My parents went from living in a one-bedroom house with about four other families to owning their own home; eventually, homes. My sister was born in 1998 and two years later our family found their way to Salinas, California where they bought a small business that they now own and operate independently.
I admire my parents for their hard work and perseverance; it makes me think to myself, a?How can I not succeed?a? I have been offered so many more opportunities in my life than they were offered in theirs and to not take advantage of those opportunities would be outrageous. My parents read to me every night when I was a child. They encouraged me to read on my own when I was older. I maintained perfect attendance records throughout elementary school and beyond. Education has always been the most important thing in my parentsa eyes. However, it has also been important to them that I become my own person and not a clone of them or anyone else. My parents influenced my creativity and individuality. They allowed me to take up such hobbies as gymnastics, piano and tennis among many others. This helped me to decide what I liked and what I didnat. Another important aspect of how my parents raised me is they never instilled their own political or religious beliefs in me. They wanted me to discover on my own what I believed in and they always let me research things on my own. Be it by reading Wiccan books to attending Catholic mass; watching CNN or Fox news. The way my parents raised me has influenced much of what I will do with my life after high school.
I intend on entering college this fall with an undeclared major. I have many interests but I am especially interested in working with either young children, animals or the environment. I know that with the degree I will earn from a University of California, I will improve the lives of people in my community and beyond. I am well-prepared for the coursework required to maintain good grades in college. I am aware that I havenat always had the best grades in high school and I accept full responsibility for that but if given the chance, I am confident that I can do better in college. I have far more potential than what is featured on my high school transcripts. I am the type of person who takes the initiative when it comes to my learning; I am dedicated and self-motivated.
Curious, yet timid. Open-minded, yet strong-willed. I am well-mannered but free-spirited. My family has encouraged these qualities in me. They have given me countless opportunities to think for myself, and learn through experience. They have shaped and molded me and my values. My parents have stressed the importance of education in me from the time I was born. They have worked hard to ensure that the option of continuing my education after high school was available. I know that a four-year university is the right option for me.
Iam not this, Iam not that and Iam nowhere in between, but as Frankie Valli once sang, a?Conventionality belongs to yesterday.a? I have learned to walk through a room full of noes with grace and confidence. I have brains in my head. I have feet in my shoes. I can steer myself in any direction I choose. My name is Jasmin Ramirez. I am seventeen years old and I hope the world is as ready for me as I am ready for the world.
yeah i just never had it proofread :) and i am still waiting on ucsb. oh and thank you :)

How Significant was the Conquest of Mexico for the Aztecs?

The Spanish Conquest of the Aztecs stands as one of the most significant and influential turning points of the western world. It opened the way for European colonization and brought forth vast changes on the new world that are still felt today. It changed the culture, religion, and a whole new way of life for the inhabitants and descendants of the entire region; since the late 1400as Spanish explorers had been charting and claiming parts of the new world for the throne of Spain.

In the following paragraphs, I will attempt to display some major and minor impacts that occurred in the Aztec world during the conquest of Mexico which changed so many innocent lives of the great people that made up this strong empire. The conquest of Mexico proved to have great significance on the population; it greatly affected them in areas including: Law, Hierarchy, Religion, Culture (Religion and Beliefs), Marriage, Language, Food and Trade.

The Conquest of Mexico in 1521 gave rise to one of the richest culinary revolutions in history. When the Spanish explorer Cortez and his followers came to the new world in search of fortune, they found a wealth of culinary specialties such as chocolate, peanuts, vanilla, beans, squash, avocados, coconuts, corn and tomatoes. Before the arrival of the Spanish Conquistadors the Aztec farmers were independent producers and traded locally, keeping their profits after paying their taxes and sacrificing wares to their Gods. Subsequent to the Spanish invasion, a feudal system was introduced which meant each Spanish Peninsular took control of the land and 500 estates were formed. The Aztecas became the slaves to their new masters, working the land in return for food and shelter, although this responsibility was often neglected by the Spanish. Unfortunately for the Aztec people, this meant two things: that they had to work for far longer hours every day to farm this exotic produce; and also, this meant that the Aztec people were stripped of their local delicacies. However, this was not as bad as it may first seem for the vulnerable Aztecs, in turn the Spanish brought to the Aztec captoras products such as: pork, beef, lamb, citrus fruits, garlic, cheese, milk, wheat, vinegar and wine. Although this was of a high significance compared to many other things that the Aztecs had previously experienced, such as battles fought against other indigenous colonies; sorting the food and trade out was not the Aztecas highest priority at that time as other impacts of this invasion would have had greater consequences on their culture. This shows us that effects upon farming, food and trade are all linked and when one aspect of those areas is altered, all the others are affected in some way.

The Aztec hierarchy before the conquest simply consisted of noble-men, warriors and advisors; although, if it was looked at more carefully it deemed to be far more complex. The Aztec priests were supported by the efforts of other people. They did not grow their own food or make their own clothes; priests enjoyed power and privilege. The priests formed part of the upper class. Aztec society, like all complex societies, had different social classes. People at the top - nobles, high priests, and people important in the military and government - had lives of luxury, with fine houses, clothing, and jewellery. The largest class was made up of commoners, such as farmers and servants. In Aztec society, commoners were organized into clans, or groups, made up of many different families. Merchants formed yet another class in Aztec society, separate from the commoners. The Aztecs carried on a great deal of trade with other Indian nations. After the conquest, the hierarchy of society differed a lot; the upper-class consisted of: Cortez, important colonels and royalty of the Spanish kingdom. The Middle class consisted of: Christian priests and Spanish warriors. The lower-class was made up of: slaves, Aztec survivors and Mezitos (The children of Spanish men married to Aztec women). The Spanish conquest had a rather large impact on the hierarchy of society as the Aztecs were pushed from the top, right to the bottom of the chain. This shows us that they had their reasons to revolt as what they considered very important people such as priests were pushed into slavery in a class below some former commoners.

Religion was extremely important in Aztec life. They worshipped hundreds of gods and goddesses, each of whom ruled one or more human activity or aspects of nature. The people had many agricultural gods because their culture was based heavily on farming. Each place and each trade had its patron deity: each day, and each part of the day, was watched over by its own god. Priests were expected to live in chastity, to mortify their
flesh, and to understand astronomy, astrology, the complex rituals and ceremonies. The common people seem to have preferred the less fancy, more accessible gods: the patrons of the craft guilds, the protectors of local shrines, and the gods who looked after the things of everyday life.

For everyone, however, rich or poor, each month of the Aztec calendar had its festival, with music, dancing and sacrifices. Ultimately, they believed their world would again end in disaster; the Aztecs believed that the world had been created and destroyed several times. The Aztecs thought that their special purpose in life was to delay that destruction. They sacrificed to the god of war and the sun to keep the sun in the sky and avoid destruction for as long as possible. Many other Aztec gods controlled natural forces. For example, there was a god of rain and a god of wind. These gods also required attention, although they might not have demanded human sacrifice. Life was very insecure, since the

Hi, I got to write an essay for a scholarship application with the question being "Describe a difficult situation you have been in and how it was resolved

I was born in Mexico City, Mexico I was not born here in the United States. I was raised by my grandparents and I lived with them all my life in Mexico. All of my family was with me in Mexico and you could say I was spoiled. The problem was we kept depending on my grandparent from my momas side for food and shelter due to my dadas lack of education. my dad moved here to the U.S in 1999 in search of a job so that he could actually take care of my brother my mother and me. He came here to Chicago and moved in with his uncle and his family to work as a waiter. Two years later in 2001 when I was six years old it was decided that my family and I would join my dad here in the U.S.
You would think that the fact that I was raised by my grandparents since infancy would make life very difficult for me here since I suddenly left them but in reality I got over it very quick. The real challenge started appearing years after that, when I became fluent in English. My mom depended tremendously on me since she did not know how to speak English. My dad was a waiter so his English was good but not great and the problem was he wasnat home a lot of the time and I was stuck with my mom. I was the one who was called upon to order the pizzas or to go with her to the hospital for a regular check-up. I hated this because I thought to myself a?Why should I have to waste my time on them? How is it my fault they canat speak English good?a? Back when my mom was pregnant she had to wear some sort of belt that would measure the contractions of the fetus. After one hour I would have to call the monitoring center everyday to notify them that the procedure had been completed and I would also have to tell them how my mom felt. This was a daily routine and it made me angry because I did not want to talk to these people that I had never met and also I was kind of a shy person before so that made it worse. To this day I am the one who has to schedule appointments at clinics because my mom might not be able to understand all they say.
My dad is better off than my mom and he can speak English fluently but he canat really read it and write it. My mom has also gotten a lot better at speaking English but she still needs my help. One of the main things that helped them learn was time. It was impossible for my parents to spend years living here in the U.S without them learning English. I also realized that the only way I could get my parents to stop bugging me all the time was if I just told them and explained English to them, which I did. I also tried to get them to buy a program called a?Ingles sin Barrerasa? but they didnat buy it. I also encouraged my parents to look up English words they didnat know online and I told them about different websites where they could find the definitions of words and translators. I think that these websites have helped my mom more than my dad since he isnat a home a lot of the time.
In the end though, my mom and dad learned English and even if it isnat great itas something. I am no longer forced to ask the shopkeeper where the tortillas are or where there the bathrooms are at. My parents have become more independent by learning English.

What do you think of it? What could be changed?

GOP dread: Dems could hit 60 Senate seats

Jim VandeHei, Mike AllenSat Oct 4, 6:18 PM ET

The possibility that Democrats will build a muscular, 60-seat Senate majority is looking increasing plausible, with new polls showing a powerful surge for the partyas candidates in Minnesota, Kentucky and other states.

A poll out Friday shows Sen. Norm Coleman could now easily lose his Minnesota seat to comedian-turned-candidate Al Franken. A Colorado race that initially looked like a nail-biter has now broken decisively for the Democrats. A top official in the McCain camp told us Sen. Elizabeth Dole is virtually certain to lose in conservative North Carolina.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky has seen his race tighten dangerously close over the past week a and Democrats are considering moving more money into the state very soon. And there is even talk that Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss is beatable in conservative Georgia after backing the economic bailout package opposed by many voters.

a?Before the economic crisis, we had a number of races moving our way,a? said Matthew Miller, communications director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. a?But now weare seeing Republican numbers plummet.a? GOP officials largely agree.

Senate races donat grab national attention like the White House battle does. But if these trends hold, the Senate outcome could be almost as important to Washington governance as the presidential winner will be. It takes 60 votes to pass anything through the slow-moving Senate. So the closer the Democrats get to the number, the more power they will have next year to put their stamp on the country.

Democrats say their candidates are benefiting from the wipeout on Wall Street with a single message in every region of the country: a?These are the Bush policies coming home to roost.a? Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York, chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, told Politico: a?Americans know that in economically difficult times, we need a change from George Bushas policies. And incumbents who have voted for six years with Bush, up and down the line, are having a difficult time trying to convince the electorate that theyave changed their spots."

The trends reflect the growing fear of among top Republicans that their prospects could crater on Nov. 4, with Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) running weakly at the top of the ticket, President Bush as unpopular as ever and the economic crisis serving as a last-minute propellant for the change message of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).

With Republicans fearing the loss of 17 to 21 House seats, January 2009 could bring Democrats a dominance over Washington that neither party has experienced since the Reagan years.

The current Senate lineup is 49 Democrats, 49 Republicans and two independents who caucus with Democrats.

Democrats need to pick up nine seats to hit 60 votes. Republicans have been bracing for big losses, but it wasnat until the past few days that they have started to privately sound the alarms that the bottom could fall out on Election Day.

GOP Senate candidates are getting pounded by the same waves of public discontent over the economy and Bush that could sink McCain, and it shows in polls from coast to coast.

Republicans fully expect to lose Virginia and New Mexico. They think there is a pretty strong chance that they also lose Colorado, Alaska, New Hampshire, Oregon and North Carolina.

This means everyone should keep their eyes on Minnesota, Kentucky, Mississippi and Georgia over the final month of this campaign to see if a wave is coming.

Several Republican strategists close to the White House said there is increasing fear among party leaders about a bloodbath. But they added that they hope to keep losses to as few as five or six seats, rather than the nine that Democrats would need to gain to reach the magic number of 60 seats.

These strategists hope the Minnesota poll out Saturday overstates Frankenas strength, because it was taken at the height of turmoil over the bailout bill that Bush finally signed Friday.

a?It reflects a lot of intense unhappiness that will fade as the market restores some equilibrium,a? a Republican official said.

But that same timing is very dangerous for Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Ore.), because his state has mail voting with a heavy early vote, meaning he has less time to recover from angst about the Wall Street wipeout.

Republicans say they have become more optimistic in recent days about Sen. John Sununu (R-N.H.), who had been considered one of the party's most endangered incumbents.

Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) will certainly lose if he is convicted in a corruption trial now under way in Washington but will probably win if he is acquitted, the strategists said.

Top Republicans say they have no hope for Dole in North Carolina. a?Thereas no point in even counting the votes,a? said a top McCain official.

Republicans said they hope to make

Both Anglo America(US & Canada) and Latin America(Brazil, Mexico, Cuba, Argentina, Chile etc) had been European colonies and became independent in between the late 18th century and early 19th century.
Interestingly enough, Anglo American countries(US & Canada) became advanced countries but Latin American countries did not.

Brazil has a huge population and a lot of natural resources; nonetheless its economy is not going well.

Why did Brazil fail to become an advanced country like US or Canada?

US, Canada and Mexico had been European colonies and became independent in between the late 18th century and early 19th century.
Interestingly enough, Anglo American countries(US & Canada) became advanced countries but Latin American countries(Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile... etc) did not.

Mexico is one of the three countries of NAFTA but its economy sucks and the people lacks civility and social conscience unlike US and Canada.

Why did Mexico fail to become an advanced country like US or Canada?
I am sorry I'll take it back the civility and social conscience part. Please just focus on the economies of Mexico.

One of the racists said it's because Latin American countries have less white people. However, the majority of Argentine population is white. How do you explain this?

Why did Argentina fail to become an advanced country like US or Canada?

The whole American continent began as European colonies. (of course I do know they had had decent indigenous civilizations prior to European invasion.)

Both Anglo America(US & Canada) and Latin America(Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela, Brazil, Chile etc) had been European colonies and became independent in between the late 18th century and early 19th century.
Interestingly enough, Anglo American countries(US & Canada) became advanced countries but Latin American countries did not.

Why is that?

For YEARS democrats (*and some republicans because I can be honest- but mostly dems) have blocked the US from becoming energy independent. I'm talking about drilling in Alaska, in the gulf of Mexico, building refineries, and nuclear plants NOW they say, "Look at the economy!" (*which actually did grow last month - 6%) The MAIN reason the economy is bad is because of the cost of fuel. It costs money to transport food, toilet paper, EVERY THING so the cost has to go up on EVERY THING because of this.

So if becoming energy independent would help, why block every effort?
*I_Bust-N - CLEARLY you don't want to face the truth. I said that there were some Republican's in my question because I wanted to be truthful in the question BUT overwhelmingly IT IS the dems who block any and every effort we make in becoming energy independent.
Nickel - Not true about Alaska and the Gulf in any way at all AND wind power is great BUT the problem with wind power is the energy can't be efficiently stored like fossil fuels can. (*In other words, it can put some electricity in your home but it ain't gonna power a plane or ship and such - it loses 80% of its energy if not used at once.)

And (you must be a dem) I never said I was in anyway against new, clean sources of energy BUT until they can be made to be more efficient we need to take care of ourselves first.

It is Mexican Independence day. But we don't celebrate Canadian Independence or others. Why do we celebrate the day Mexico became independent from Spain?

About 200 years ago, the region that is now the states of California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas use to belong to the then new independent Mexico Republic. Since a lot of Americans began to settle in these regions, the Mexican government began to accept English as a second language in its territories. However, there came a time when the the new settlers began entering illegally in great numbers and as a result began out numbering the original settlers and English began to become the main language. The original settlers began protesting over the new settlers and soon sparked the Mexican American War of the 1800's.

5. Mexico sealed it borders to keep slavery out of their contry

7. The US immediately annexed Texas into the Union

Do you think that would solve our immigration problem? Maybe not all of the Americans, but what if we combined the US, Canada (grant it they would need to become independent from the crown first), and mostly importantly Mexico and create a North American Union? And maybe years later we can unite all of the Americas?
Honestly I'm on the fence about this: Part of me says, no, we shouldn't give Mexican illegals amnesty and we should deport but another part of me is like: Let's get real, a million of them are here (literately) and due to years of both legal and illegal immigration on the southern border the Hispanic culture is a part of the American culture so why do away with it because the first immigrants were white or caramel complected British, Irish, Spanish, etc "warriors". I mean English became our first and main language from our mostly British fore fathers and due to other foreigners who couldn't pronounce the words, we changed them around to commodate them. So why don't we take the amnesty idea further and eliminate the political borders in the Americas?
We could make Spanish, French, and other languages (in South America) part of our official languages like the EU does.
Well if we make an American Union we could create a brand new currency that could be used and made in other parts of North America or the Americas.
